Preparing New Farmland
In Ogata village, a farming plan was made for growing rice on large, partitioned farmland using large agricultural machinery such as tractors and combine harvesters.
From 1965, the land was developed for monoculture rice farming, and in 1973 the plan was changed to integrated rice and wheat farming.
Standard procedure for farmland development (for farmland that alternates between paddy and field)
Since 1971, efforts have been made to develop farmland that can also be used for field crops.
Drainage ditches were dug and culverts were laid to improve drainage.
This development was aimed at allowing the farmland to dry quickly.
