A system to protect reclaimed land

Ogata Village is located below sea level, and the embankments protect the land by preventing water from entering. For the village, the embankments are a lifeline.
Ogata Village has faced several major earthquakes, including the Oga-Oki Earthquake, the Niigata Earthquake, and the Sea of Japan Chubu Earthquake, all of which caused significant damage to the embankments.
However, despite this, no water from outside the embankments has flowed in.
The embankments have been promptly repaired after each event.
Since the embankments are built on soft, sludge-like ground, they are raised gradually, taking into account the settling of the land.
