Agricultural Machines Turned into Turtles
In the early days of settlement, tractors and combines would often get stuck in the mud while working and become immobile.
When the caterpillar tracks spun freely, they would fling mud everywhere and sink deeper, making it nearly impossible to get them out on their own.
The sight of this struggle resembled a turtle wriggling in the mud, so it came to be called “turning into a turtl e.”
To rescue them, it was common to see scenes where tractorsor bulldozers were used to pull them out with wires.
