Drainage of Landfill?

Ogata Village was created by reclaiming Lake Hachiro.
However, this land was not formed by transporting soil from the surrounding area to fill in the lake.
Instead, a dike was built around the lake, stretching over 52 km, and water from the inside was pumped out, drying the lakebed.
In the early days, the drying process of the soft, sludge-like land (referred to as “sediment”) was not sufficient, causing agricultural machinery and other equipment to become buried.
Over many years of effort, the land was gradually transformed into fertile soil suitable for agriculture, resulting in the rich land we have today.
