Hachirogata Lagoon before Reclamation

Hachirogata Lagoon was fed by several rivers from the surrounding areas.
Additionally, in the southern part of the lagoon, the narrow Funakoshi Strait connected Hachirogata to the Sea of Japan.
The Funakoshi Strait was narrow and difficult to navigate.
As a result, the coastline of Hachirogata was frequently affected by flooding.
