Ryunosuke SHIMANUKI
Ryunosuke Shimanuki was born in 1906 in Yotsuya Village (now part of Daisen City), Akita Prefecture.
After working as a teacher, he entered public service in Akita Prefecture in 1934, holding positions such as Head of the Commerce and Industry Division and Head of the Local Affairs Division.
In 1955, he was appointed Director of the Hachirogata Reclamation Promotion Office, a position he held for four years.
During this time, he made dedicated efforts to negotiate with the government and relevant agencies, as well as work with coastal fishermen to resolve compensation issues, ultimately leading to the successful implementation of the reclamation project.
In 1964, with the establishment of Ogata Village, Shimanuki was appointed Acting Mayor of Ogata Village, a position he held for six terms (12 years).
In 1976, he was elected the first directly elected mayor of Ogata Village, and he played a key role in establishing the administrative foundation of the village during its difficult early years.
His success in this endeavor was highly significant.
Ryunosuke Shimanuki passed away in 1979.
